Great Yarmouth is situated on the east coast in Norfolk, England. It started to become a popular day tripping and seaside holiday resort in late Victorian and early Edwardian times.
Great Yarmouth was created on a sand bank that formed around the 1200's, prior to that there were some roman forts which are now inland. The original main business of Great Yarmouth was a market and trading town. In the 1800's the town became a thriving fishing port which carried on till the middle of the 20th century. There is still some fishing activity although more is now in the Adjacent Lowestoft port but much of the history of the port can be seen in the place names and museums of the town.
In 2009 a new £45 million outer harbour opens which allows much larger vessels and ships to gain access to the town than in the existing harbour. This will act as a catalys for expansion of the town and its road network. There are great plans for seafront redevelopment including the fact that Great Yarmouth has gained one of only eight national regional casino licences and it is expected that work on a new £35 casino will start in a couple of years.
The Lea Hurst's location in Great Yarmouth is ideal for a seaside holiday break, just a few minutes away from the seafront where there are bowling greens, theatres, 2 piers, shops, arcades and a multi screen cinema. Not to forget the some of the best and most famous sandy beaches in the UK and a fabulous promenade.
